Locate Dauphin Work Release Discharges

To find someone released from the Dauphin County Work Release Center, first distinguish placement from final discharge. Residents at the center remain incarcerated even when approved to work or travel under program rules. The center is a court-managed community-corrections facility, separate from both Dauphin County Prison and Probation Services. A final discharge may return a resident to the community under probation or county parole. A program removal can instead lead to remand at the county prison. Court orders, center records, and the proper supervision office clarify which event occurred.

Work Release Custody Status

Dauphin County Work Release Center is a community-corrections and work-release facility. The Court of Common Pleas manages it as a department. It is not a unit of Dauphin County Prison and is not part of Probation Services. Most important, the county expressly describes residents as incarcerated. Permission to leave for approved work does not convert the placement into community freedom.

Movement from Dauphin County Prison to the center is a custody placement. Some residents may also report directly under a court commitment, so a prison lookup may not show a prior county-prison episode for that sentence. Final discharge is a later event. It can lead to the community, often with a court-ordered term of county parole or probation. Removal, a violation, or remand can send a resident back to Dauphin County Prison.

Confirm Work Release Discharge

There is no separate public Work Release discharge roster. Begin with the court order and direct center contact. The official Work Release Center page identifies the program, contact numbers, and its relationship to the court. The Pennsylvania UJS docket can show the sentence, commitment, later orders, and case events that explain the legal basis for placement or discharge.

  1. Search the UJS docket and identify the controlling sentence or work-release order.
  2. Call the correct center number with the resident's full name and known case details.
  3. Ask whether the event was a final discharge, approved movement, or remand, while recognizing disclosure limits.
  4. Check the Dauphin County inmate lookup if a move from or return to the county prison is possible.
  5. For a formal result, request the existing center/court discharge record and supervision order.

Work Release placement is incarceration. Only a final discharge record and the court order can support a claim that the custodial placement ended.

A prison Release Date may mark movement from the prison building into Work Release. It does not prove unconditional release. Likewise, absence from the prison lookup can be expected for a direct commitment to the center. The Dauphin County released-inmate record path helps route a later state, federal, or county transfer, but center placement must stay labeled as its own county court channel.

Work Release Record Contact

The center runs around the clock, while administrative staff publish weekday office hours. Different phone lines serve the director and the male and female centers. A caller should use the center contact for placement navigation, not assume Adult Probation holds the Work Release record merely because probation can follow discharge.

The custodian may reroute a request to the office that owns the exact record.

Work Release Governance Since 1996

The Work Release Center has operated as a stand-alone facility since 1996. Its governance is a distinctive Dauphin County fact. The center reports through the Court of Common Pleas, while Dauphin County Prison is a county support-services department and Probation Services is a separate court function. The offices work together, but they do not hold identical records.

That division decides where a request belongs. The center or court can confirm placement and program discharge. Probation Services handles an assigned supervision duty after release. The prison owns its booking and custody episode. A person may pass through more than one of those systems, so the date and document type should be stated in each request.

The distinction also prevents a common records error. A county prison date may close when the person enters Work Release, yet the center's custodial placement continues. The final center discharge may occur later and be followed by an assigned officer. A sound timeline labels both events rather than replacing the first date with the second.

The county's successful facility capture comes from the official Work Release Center source.

Work Release Supervision Orders

Final discharge may be followed by county probation or county parole. Probation is a court-ordered community sentence or post-confinement term. County parole is conditional service of the balance of a county sentence outside the facility. Neither should be inferred from the fact that a person stopped residing at Work Release. The sentence or parole order identifies the type and duration of supervision.

Dauphin County Adult Probation is at 917 Gibson Boulevard, next to the Work Release Center, and lists 717-780-6900. That close location does not merge the agencies. A discharged person follows the order and instructions from the assigned officer. A third party may receive only general navigation because supervision files can contain confidential case information.

County supervision should not be confused with state parole. The PA DOC Department Supervised Individual Locator covers people under state DOC supervision, not every Dauphin County probationer or county parolee. A person released from PA DOC on state parole uses the state locator and Harrisburg District Office. A Work Release discharge under a county order uses Dauphin Adult Probation.

Direct Work Release Commitments

Some court sentences permit direct reporting to Work Release. The center's calendars and intake instructions reflect that path. A direct-commitment resident may enter the center without a matching move from Dauphin County Prison for the same episode. Treating the prison lookup as the only record would miss this structure.

For direct commitment, preserve the docket number and reporting order. The UJS docket explains the sentence. The center confirms admission and status within disclosure limits. Final discharge should be tied to the later center/court record. If the resident fails the program or is removed, check for remand into the county prison and then use the prison's released-inclusive lookup for that new or resumed custody episode.

Program access is controlled by the court and center. The facility is not a public walk-in service, and its transition role does not mean that anyone can choose placement. Eligibility, intake, work approval, and continued participation depend on the controlling order and program rules. Contact staff for the correct intake channel rather than appearing without instructions.

Driving is also controlled. The center's FAQ says a resident may drive only with director approval. An approved commute is a program privilege, not release. The same care applies to work hours, appointments, and temporary travel.

Work Release Remand Checks

Remand means return to custody under a court or program action. A Work Release resident can be sent to Dauphin County Prison after removal or a violation. The center's property procedure specifically addresses remand, which confirms that this is a real transition between two separate facilities.

When remand is suspected, search the county inmate application without assuming a release. A current result can show the prison episode. If the person later leaves the prison, rerun the search with “Include released inmates” and inspect Release Date. The docket may show the legal action, but the facility records establish the physical moves.

A new arrest or outside detainer can create another path. Another county, PA DOC, federal authorities, or ICE may receive custody. No result in one system settles the issue. Use the receiving authority's tool and request the destination field if the public county record is not clear.

Request Work Release Records

A focused request should name the resident, docket number, date range, and existing document sought. Useful terms include placement or admission record, final discharge record, remand record, and the order or supervision instruction tied to discharge. Ask for electronic copies and a cost estimate. Do not request that the county create a timeline if no such document exists.

The Dauphin County open-records route applies Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know Law as an access procedure, not a promise that every part of a community-corrections file is public. Personal security, medical, investigative, and other protected information may be redacted. A denial or partial denial should identify the legal basis and appeal route. Court records may follow judicial access rules rather than ordinary county RTKL processing.

The clean proof chain is short: court order for legal authority, center record for placement or discharge, and supervision office for the post-release obligation. That chain preserves the difference between work-release custody and release to the community.

Note: The Work Release Center operates continuously, but its published administrative office hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
